Spoodle Information
What Does a Spoodle Look Like?
Typically, Spoodles are small dogs with a soft wavy coat. They have large, expressive eyes and a "teddy bear" face with long soft ears. Their muzzle is slightly longer than that of the Cavoodle but usually shorter than a Cocker Spaniel. Spoodles come in a range of colours including red, gold, cream, black, chocolate, black and tan, white, and tan and white. They are usually longer in shape, very similar to a purebred Cocker Spaniel.
Our Spoodles stand between 35cm and 40cm.
Spoodle Facts
For decades the Spoodle has been a popular dog. Spoodles can be either English or American. The English is the more common of the two and is the result of a cross between a Poodle and an English Cocker Spaniel. The American Spoodle is a cross between the Poodle and the American Cocker Spaniel. In the USA the Spoodle is also known as the Cockapoo.
Our Spoodles are a small medium sized dog. Very similar in size to a purebred Cocker Spaniel. The sire is a Miniature Poodle and the mother is an English Cocker Spaniel.

Spoodle Temperament
The Spoodle is loyal, intelligent, and very affectionate. This dog is fairly easy to train being mixed with what is said to be one of the smartest dogs in the world. Being that this dog is mixed with the Poodle, he makes a wonderful training student. Having a very sweet nature, this dog is sure to steal the hearts of many.
Spoodles often inherit the sweet and patient disposition associated with the Cocker Spaniel provide that both parents have been selected on the basis of good temperament.
English Spoodles are more commonly bred because the English Cocker Spaniel has fewer health and temperament problems but American Spoodles can still make good family pets provided they have been selectively bred.
Chevromist Kennels encourages breeders to hold health and temperament first and foremost and to aim for a Spoodle with a calm and relaxed disposition. Spoodles should be sweet and patient, intelligent, loyal and friendly. In order to make sure our Spoodles are less neurotic or hyperactive, we have introduced the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into our Spoodle breeding program.
Spoodle Health
Spoodles are generally healthy dogs. The average lifespan for a Spoodle is about 12 to 15 years but parentage is one factor that will influence longevity. Our Spoodles are DNA Health Tested for genetic health issues to reduce the risk of health issues in our Spoodles.
Spoodle Grooming
Because Spoodles are crossed with a Poodle they often make better dogs for people with allergies however allergies are not caused by a particular type of coat but by dander (dead skin cells) which all dogs drop (and humans for that matter) but Spoodles like other Poodle crosses shed less of.
Most Spoodle owners prefer to have their dogs clipped (or clip them themselves) about every 6 to 10 weeks. If the coat is kept at a short to medium length, the Spoodle requires only a small amount of brushing.
Spoodle Exercise Requirements
The Spoodle is a happy-go-lucky dog that loves to run and play with his family. No yard is fine, but this dog does require daily walks. They also have the tendency to over eat so exercise is needed for this dog to stay healthy.
